The Eurovision Song contest has taken place annually since 1956. It was inspired by the Sanremo Music Festival, Italy, which was first held between 29th and 31st January, 1951.Radio Show
Eurovision was originally, mostly a radio show, although there were cameras filming, for the few people, at the time, who had television sets. Switzerland
Switzerland hosted the first competition, as well as being awarded the winner's prize.
