Eurovision Song Contest Abba were the winners of the 1974 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. It was held at the Dome, the Art Deco style concert hall, on 6th April, in Brighton. The televised event was presented by Katie Boyle. They performed eighth on the evening, singing the English-language version of Waterloo.
California Jam Saturday 6th April was also the date of California Jam, a rock concert attended by 200,000 at the Ontario motor speedway. A cut-out rainbow, behind the speaker stacks, was used as a stage prop. Deep Purple chose to go stage at sunset, making Emerson, Lake & Palmer the last act to perform.
Saturday Gig Mott the Hoople released Saturday Gigs, the band’s last single, which set our the band's career (Seventy-four was the Broadway tour).
